| Is there a copy of the SAMS rules anywhere that includes blue smarties? |

Dunno. Weren't blue smarties removed at one point due to food dye concerns, and then removed from the system? And then put back. Tim's your man for this one (he wrote the system).

I was giving some thought to this...
I originally thought to present a new version at Tagcon but didn't want to cause potential confusion becuase there's a new medical system for the Firefly games so thought it better to leave alone.
When I re-wrote SAMS-Vista for the removal of blue smarties I also tweaked and added some stuff so going back to pre-blue removal SAMS-XP loses more than it gains - so the current work-around is that Blue Smarties are "No Effect - Roll again" (and eat the smarties)
In the optional Drug Rules - Blue smarties become arterial dilator pills - Viagra to most folks and have little effect beyond the well known one....
I will undertake to present a SAMS-7 at Tagcon next year that will include Blue Smarties in the hit chart again - unless there is a significant demand in which case I'll do it beforehand. I would like to expand the advanced Treatment Rules as I do like very much the bullet box system that the Firefly games will be using a lot and would like to incorporate something similar (However the basic design criteria will always be smarties picked from a tube and looked at on a colour chart - easy set up and low paperwork/litter overhead).
You can thank Chris Hannaford (by way of Bill Gates) for the Version Numbering System....
Cheers

Oh hi Tim!
I think your SAMS work is really good. I'm hoping to persuade the Death Unto Darkness people that they wish to adopt SAMS (or a modded version thereof) to allow for more bionic limbs.
Obviously you have the credit for the good idea and I'm hoping that it will make the transition from NERF larp to 'tag LARP all the more seamless... |

It always was designed as a get people back into the game fairly fast (but not so fast that there's no penalty for being dumb enough to be shot)
I hope the Nerfers enjoy it - I know it's been used in Italy - I think it was "ported" to M&Ms but there are less colour choices so the hit table is smaller.
The biggest conceptual hole in SAMS is that it's biased towards weapon fire - I think Dai produced an alternative hit sheet for hack and slash attacks for the Starship troopers game a few years ago, but otherwise it's pretty much about being shot. One opf the enhancements was going to be a range of alternative hit charts for different scenarios - disease - edged weapons - animal bites etc etc
Happy to help with any adaptation work if desirable....
Cheers

Justin - Words fail me . . . I just hope that Tim doesn't start assigning different versions of SAMS NATO reporting names . . .
Anyway on a more serious(?) note, the idea of modifying the results table of Grail, sorry, SAMS to reflect different threats is a very interesting one.
Just an idea, and just as an example, but if hand-to-hand combat was abstracted to a game of rock-paper-scissors - a novice could only pick one symbol and would have to stick with it, an experienced barroom brawler would have a choice of two to pick from and a ninja could use any of the three - treatment of the unconscious Ninja (the newbie got lucky!) could then be resolved on the "Melee Combat" SAMS chart.
Okay, that example is probably getting but the idea of tweaking the results chart is definitely something worth exploring. _________________ "The wages of sin don't adjust for inflation." |
